Garden City Fire Department is currently in the process of training firefighters to be able to install and inspect child safety seats. Firefighters will be certified through SafeKids Kansas. After certification is complete, car seat technicians will be available for safety events to provide education, inspections, and installation.
Firefighters must be evaluated and complete continuing education requirements bi-annually. Occasionally, GCFD receives child safety seats through grants and state-wide programs that are available for families on financial assistance. Individuals requesting a car seat must meet one of the following qualifications:
- Enrolled in the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program
- Receiving insurance through KanCare or Kansas Farm Workers Health Program
- Have a Kansas Vision Card
