The Support Services Division is comprised of the Office of Professional Standards, Communications, Evidence, and Records under the command of Captain Jason Chase. These sections are responsible for record-keeping, computer entry, dispatching emergency services, hiring, testing, recruiting, and internal affairs investigations. Each section has specific responsibilities that need to be fulfilled to ensure that all employees have the resources available to enhance everyone's quality of life within our great community.
Communications
The Communications Section is staffed by civilian personnel and consists of four Supervisors and twelve Communicators. The department operates 24 hours a day, with personnel organized into four teams that work rotating shifts to ensure continuous coverage.
The Communications Section currently has five radio consoles that have the capability of monitoring numerous channels, five of which are constantly manned. The Communicators are responsible for dispatching calls for service and monitoring the emergency personnel actions for nine different agencies/departments in Finney County, with the help of a computer system and a CAD program
The Communications Section is also responsible for answering the five 911 and five administrative lines in an effort to provide the quickest and best service to our community. All 911 lines in Finney County ring into our dispatch center.
Records
The Records Section is staffed by five full-time civilian Record Clerks who work Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The clerks are responsible for maintaining and processing records, taking messages, disseminating reports to the courts, answering administrative phone lines, transcribing recordings and videos, and assisting citizens who visit the Law Enforcement Center.
These employees play a vital role in the day-to-day operations of the department. The data entered in the computer could make a difference when providing essential information to the officers on the street in the performance of their duties. Records and Communications personnel use teamwork to ensure that calls for service get answered in a timely manner.
Evidence
The Evidence Section has two full-time Evidence Technicians and is supervised by Evidence Supervisor Casey Milligan. The Evidence Technicians work Monday through Friday from 8 am to 5 pm and are subject to call-outs during the weekends. They are responsible for responding to major crime scenes to gather evidence to alleviate detectives and officers from this task to focus on the criminal investigation. Evidence Technicians are also responsible for storage and maintaining a chain of custody of all evidence gathered and found property functions.
